Advent Season

We are closing out the year in Ministry…don’t forget! Keep in mind the events over the coming weeks in the life of First Calvary. This Wednesday night during our regular Bible Study time, join us for our Annual “Bring a Pot” Fellowship. When you “bring your pot”, try to have it here by 6:15 p.m. Also during this time we will share in prayer and praise with our Angel Tree families. Please don’t forget, Angel Tree givers, that your gifts need to be here….ON TIME! It would be nice if your gifts would be here at the church by Monday, December 12th (yes, that’s tomorrow). I am really amazed at the support many of you have given to this ministry work each year. We should all consider it a blessing to help those who are in need. Our Annual Christmas Presentation will take place on December 18th. Our volunteers are cordially invited to be our guests at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Event on December 21st, hosted by Pastor and Mrs. Davis. If you will attend, please RSVP to lindsay@firstcalvary.org by THIS THURSDAY, December 15th. We need to have an accurate attendance list for the event. On December 25th and January 1st, we will have one Worship service at 9:30 a.m. for Christmas and New Year’s Day! As usual, we will celebrate the coming of 2017 with our Annual Watch Night Service on December 31st… we hope to see YOU there! You see, First Calvary, there is still much work to do, even as the year comes to a close. Speaking of which, it is never too late to make a donation to our Food Pantry. What a great way to serve our community during this season.
Today at 6:30 p.m., our Official Leadership Team will focus on our anticipated budget for 2017, which includes all Ministry, Operational and Administrative Expenses. As Pastor, I want to take this time to encourage you…not to put you “on blast”…but to remind you of the importance of being consistent givers if we are going to advance this ministry work at First Calvary Baptist Church.
I would like to offer this thought: the relationship between purse and person is intimate. Jesus said, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:21) That's intimacy! Find the treasure and you find the heart. Having said that, I am asking us to move our faith level up a notch these last few Sundays of 2016 and let’s start 2017 on a good, giving foot! I am hoping and praying that God will continue to make us aware of our Godly duty of being consistent tithers and givers… weekly, monthly or however.
In closing, on this 3rd Sunday of Advent (Advent Devotional Guide), let us remember, that the real reason for this season is to celebrate the coming of the Savior. I encourage each of us to not forget the ultimate Reason for the Season. I know it’s cliché but it’s very important that we remember what we shouldn’t forget….it’s all about Christ…He is our JOY! That is what the “Advent Season” is all about….celebrating His coming. As believers, we must make it known that in spite of the commercialization of this time we celebrate CHRIST! It is also important that First Calvary Baptist Church continues to be “AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION”!
